This money would've been created out of thin air ... loaned to the banks at virtually zero interest ... then, theoretically, could've created up to ten times that amount in loans ... inflating the money supply, and causing inflation as it moves through the financial system ... not only do the banks earn good interest on this money, handling it first, they suffer no inflation
(What that US$16,000,000,000,000 can be turned into via Fractional Reserve Banking ... is mind boggling ... money is 'amplified' many times ... if you want a loan of $100,000 ... the bank creates that 'debt' out of thin air, as a debt against it's reserves in the Fed ... you buy a car for $100,000 ... the car dealer banks that money into another bank ... and that bank loans out $90,000 of it ... so now both banks are earning interest on $190,000 (now in the economy, causing inflation - that's actually what is happening for every loan - inflation of the money supply) ... and that cycle repeats several times ... making bankers incredibly rich ... and keeping us poor)
As loans get repaid ... the debt is cancelled out, and this type of money created out of 'thin air', is destroyed back into 'thin air' - leaving the banks holding a very nice chunk of interest - interest on an amount of money up to ten times what they had borrowed from the Fed at virtually zero interest - nice work if you can get it - the banks make a killing - and we work like slaves (we are!) to pay this money ... created out of thin air ... back
